About MicJot

What is MicJot?

MicJot is a dictation app for macOS. Hold one key in any app, speak, and let go: MicJot types clean, punctuated text where your cursor is. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, so your voice never leaves it.

Is MicJot free?

Yes, to start. Free gives every feature, MicJot AI included, for your first 3,000 words; Pro removes the limit. The pricing page has the prices.

How do I get MicJot?

Not yet: MicJot for Mac is coming soon.

Does MicJot send my voice to the cloud?

No. Speech recognition runs on your Mac with Whisper Large v3 Turbo through Core ML, and audio never leaves the Mac. Turn on MicJot AI and only the text is sent to Anthropic for cleanup.

How is MicJot different from macOS Dictation?

MicJot always recognises speech on your Mac, removes filler words and false starts, formats numbers, times and lists the way you would type them, and keeps a searchable history. macOS Dictation is free, built in and supports many languages; the comparison page lists where each is better, with sources.

Which languages does MicJot understand?

Recognition works in the 99 languages Whisper covers. Smart formatting, filler removal and cleanup are built for English and are skipped for other languages, so their words are left exactly as recognised.

How do I dictate with MicJot?

Hold the dictation key (fn by default) in any app with a text cursor, speak, and let go. Double-tap the key for hands-free and press it again to finish. The text appears where your cursor is.

What permissions does MicJot need?

Microphone, to hear you, and Accessibility, to type the text into the app you are using. Input Monitoring is asked for only if MicJot cannot otherwise see the fn key. The permissions page explains each.

Is MicJot in the Mac App Store?

No. The App Store sandbox forbids typing into other apps through Accessibility and a global keyboard event tap, which is how MicJot works. It is distributed from this website.

Who makes MicJot?

One independent developer. MicJot is paid for by its users, never by their data: there are no analytics on the website or in the app, no ad network and no data broker.

How do I uninstall MicJot?

Quit MicJot and drag it from Applications to the Trash. The uninstall page lists the folders that hold your settings, history and the speech model, to delete if you want nothing left behind.

Using MicJot

Does it work offline?

Yes. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, so dictation works with no internet. MicJot AI cleanup needs a connection; without one, MicJot still formats numbers, times and lists on your Mac.

Which apps does it work in?

Any app with a text cursor: Mail, Slack, Teams, Gmail in your browser, ChatGPT, Claude, Notion, OneNote, code editors and more.

Which Macs?

macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer).

Is there an iPhone, Windows or Android version?

Not yet. MicJot is macOS only today.

What does MicJot AI send?

The text of a dictation (or your selected text and instruction in Command mode), never audio. It travels encrypted to MicJot’s server, which forwards it to Anthropic for cleanup and keeps only word and token counts, never the text.
