About MicJot
A dictation app for the Mac, made by one person, that keeps your voice on your Mac.
What it is
MicJot is a menu-bar app for macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. You hold a key in any app, talk, and let go; MicJot types what you meant at your cursor, with numbers, times, lists and punctuation written the way you would type them. Speech recognition runs on your Mac with Whisper Large v3 Turbo through Core ML. MicJot 0.3.1 is a free private beta, and this build has no account service.
Who makes it
One person. There is no team, no investors and no sales department, which is why the site says what the software does in plain words and shows measurements instead of ratings. The first build shipped on 2026-10-13; the changelog has every release since.
Clean room
MicJot is an independent, clean-room implementation inspired by the feature set of Wispr Flow. It contains no code, prompts, assets or service endpoints from Wispr Flow. The open-source components and speech models it is built on are listed, with their licences, on the acknowledgements page.
How it is paid for
By its users, once paid plans exist, never by their data. MicJot 0.3.1 is a free private beta; from the public release, Free covers the first 3,000 words with every feature and Pro removes the limit. There are no analytics on the website or in the app, no ad network, and no data broker. The privacy page lists every request the app makes.
What it is not
Mac only. There is no iOS or Windows version and none is promised; the on-device models and the way text is inserted are built on macOS. It is not in the Mac App Store, because the sandbox forbids typing into other apps through Accessibility, a global keyboard event tap and posting ⌘V into another process.
